About us

We are a proactive local planning authority in South East Essex, with a complete Local Development Plan supporting and directing the future growth and prosperity of the district up to 2025.

The job role

This is an exciting and challenging post for someone looking to join a local authority that is forward thinking and committed to delivering excellent public services.

You will be a member of the Strategic Planning Team, working towards the preparation of development plan documents, including a new Local Plan and the South Essex Strategic Framework. Once adopted in 2024, these documents will set out the policies that planning applications are assessed against until 2040.

The role will include assisting with the monitoring of the Council’s existing Local Plan and supporting the development of new plans, including making contributions to technical evidence on a range of subject matters

You will also assist in the running and organisation of public consultation exercises associated with the preparation of development plan documents.

There may be a requirement occasionally to work evenings or weekends to participate in community engagement events or to attend committee meetings.

This post is assigned as a Career Matrix role, and the successful candidate will be able to achieve accelerated pay progression on the successful completion of defined tasks along with technical and professional development, and an assessment of competencies and behaviours.
