Building Control Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: (PO1-PO4) - £34,909 - £37233 (including a £5,000 market forces supplement – non contractual).

Relocation package of up to £5,000 available in approved cases.

About you:  We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has some knowledge of all aspects of Building Control and allied legislation, with some experience in Building Control, gained from a range of building regulation submission types.  You will be able to apply your knowledge of building construction to practical situations and have a proven ability to manage and positively progress projects.  Additionally, you will engage with customers, ensuring that complex or difficult matters are explained in a polite and professional way.  You will have the ability to win customers’ trust to ensure they return to use our services again. 

The Job Role:  The post holder will be responsible for assisting team members in providing a building control checking service within Rochford District Council. The main responsibilities of the post will be plan vetting, site inspections of building work, enforcement, and administering demolition notices.

 Good IT skills, accurate record keeping and effective communication skills are essential requirements.  A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is also essential for business purposes, for which a mileage allowance will be paid.

To apply for this post you must have achieved an educational standard where you have or are working towards achieving qualifications with a large building construction content. You will also need to be willing to continue your studies towards achieving a relevant degree level /professional qualification from the CIOB, RICS or CABE. 

Starting salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and the post is career graded allowing progression within the scale after reaching measurable competency levels.

Rochford District is an attractive area, with a mix of urban and rural spaces in a tight geographical area.  Rochford is easily accessible with a main line station to London Liverpool Street (50 minutes) and London Southend Airport.
